Cultural Anthropology
What is cultural anthropology?
The definition of cultural anthropology is "the study of how people who share a common cultural system organize and shape the physical and social world around them". To word it in a more casual way, a cultural anthropologist studies different cultures and how they form. This is studied in many different ways such as looking at old documents, analyzing the different art mediums, as well as first-person experiencing the culture. Cultural anthropology has three different branches, archaeology, anthropological linguistics, and lastly ethnology. Archaeology is the study of history through bones and fossils. Anthropological linguistics is the study of different languages, they can study dead languages as well as alive ones. Ethnology is comparing different cultures to one another and analyzing the differences. Some famous archaeologists include Howard Carter known for discovering the ancient tomb of the pharaoh Tutankhamun, Arthur Evans known for discovering the Greek island of Crete, and Kathleen Kenyon is known for her work in the ancient Jericho and Tell es-Sultan.
