 Anthropology terms

Acculturation-  Acculturation is modification to a culture because of another's culture's influence.  One example of acculturation is Native Americans having to change their religion, appearance, and beliefs because of European influence. Native Americans were heavily encouraged to switch to Christianity. Europeans also brought horses and guns that changed the way Native Americans hunted. Some Native Americans stopped wearing traditional clothing

Participant observation- A great example of participant observation was in our seminar reading “Not a real fish”. We see Roger Keesing's encounters with the Kwaio people. He lives with them for several years learning their language, culture, and beliefs. He learns the official Kwaio language and starts becoming accustomed to their norms.
